Bad Weather Policy
Because George School is a boarding school, classes are rarely cancelled in bad weather, even when school buses are not running.
Parents are asked to decide whether or not their day students should come to school in the morning or leave early during the day. This can be a difficult decision, especially when school districts close and busing is not provided. While it is important that students attend classes, safety—not attendance—should be your first consideration. If a child stays at home, it is important to notify the Attendance Office early in the day.
If weather conditions turn poor during the day or a major storm is expected, day students are encouraged to stay on campus in the dorms. The Deans’ Office will help make arrangements for overnight stays. Day students will not be permitted to drive home in bad weather without parental authorization to the Deans’ Office.
On those rare occasions when classes are cancelled, announcements will be carried by radio stations
WBCB (1490 AM),
WPST (94.5 FM), WHWH (1350AM), and on television stations
WPVI channel 6 and
WCAU channel 10, beginning at 5:30 a.m. George School will be announced by name. You may also call the school at 215-579-6500 for a recorded message beginning at 5:30 a.m., or check our
website homepage or the
parents page. Classes have been cancelled only a few times in the past few years.
